WWE: Notes and Rumors

WWE sign The son of an ex WWE Star

The WWE has signed the son of Ted DiBiase, Ted DiBiase Jr. on a development contract.
He will be wrestling at Florida Campionship Wrestling. DiBiase Jr. trained at Harley Race’s school and has already wrestled in Japan for NOAH.

Reason for Nitro’s name change

The name of ECW’s Champion Johnny Nitro was changed due that many in the WWE felt that the name was not taken seriously for a champion.

Many people came up with names but at the end it was Vince who decided on Morrison because he felt that the wrestler looked like Jim Morrison (Lead singer of The Doors). Kahli WHC, Hornswaggle CWC and wrestlers who look like dead rockstars, what’s next???

Blown Spots

Let’s all take some time to appreciate the funnier side of wrestling. Even if people got hurt, at least we can laugh at it, now.

WWE Raw Discussion: Match of Champions

Didn’t we just see this match at Victory Road? Seriously. Discuss Raw here!

Oh, and read Magno’s GAB report below where he describes the worst PPV ever!

(Disclaimer: I don’t actually know if it was the worst PPV ever. I didn’t see it. But apparently someone said it was so I found this funny.)

My First PPV

Show some love, yo.

All in all, I have been to about 5 WWE shows. 1 Smackdown at HP Pavilion in San Jose(Jan 2003), a Smackdown based House show in Oakland Coliseum (May 2003), 1 RAW(May 2004)at HP Pavilion in San Jose, and a Smackdown/ECW show at HP Pavilion(Feb. 2007). See some trends? Yep. No PPVs.

Jesus worshipers greeted us on the way to HP. They blabbed on about benoit and his wrongdoings. People in line to get in just booed the two out of the way. Needless to say, he wasn’t too welcome.

San Jose showed their true colors as I saw a stack of “Cena Sucks”, “Cena = Crap”, “Cena, lose already.” signs at the corner of the entrance. I checked my ticket in. I was asked to show my sign and proudly did so. Turns out it wasn’t just Cena signs. I was asked to put it down, and did so. “Batista Sucks” is what my sign said. Bleh, it’s only the truth.

Sec 203 Row 4, Seat 12. $50. Not too bad of seats. Lower Upper seating range.

Dark Match: Chris Masters vs. Chuck Palumbo. Well, isn’t this quite the techinical classic? Crap brawling. Restholds. Power moves. Boot to Masters. Palumbo over in 6 minutes.

Lillian Garcia tells us 90 til we hit live. Looking around, the majority of the crowd is Hispanic and kids.

A group of six sat next to me. An elderly black gentleman, 2 middle aged guys, a teenager, 2 young kids. Glad to see wrestling can bring families together. Assuming of course that they are family.

Fireworks and we are live. Boo birds are out and proud as Cena’s name is put out there. Don’t know if the boos were clear on the broadcast though.

1. US Title. MVP (C) vs. Matt Hardy. Of course, Matt was wayyy over. MVP with his heel boos and certain cheers here and there. Typical Matt Hardy match, slow first 5 mins, nice spots here and there, definetly got the crowd pumped up. The finish came when MVP hit an overdrive on Matt. Nice 13 minute opener.

2. Cruiserweight Open: Chavo (C) vs. Yang (Meh) vs. Moore (WTF) vs. Funaki (WTF) vs. Noble (Nice!)
Is there such a thing as a straight up 1 on 1 match for the X Div. or the Cruiserweight Div.? Crowd enjoyed this match as Chavo got heat AND some cheers. No reaction to Funaki and Moore, but Yang got a nice pop. Noble, unforunately, got no reaction. Hprsnwaggle showed his face and the crowd cheered. Some nice Cruiserweight stuff here and there, couple of high flying spots would have ben nice, but meh. Hornswaggle splash from the second rope! 1, 2, 3! Hornswaggle new champ! Kids loved it, others just let it go.

At this point, it is a live crowd, but in typical WWE fashion, they just kill it.

3. Singapore Cane on a Pole match. Sandman vs. Carlito.
Snoozefest. Weak spots. No use of cane becuase as soon as Sandman got the cane, carlito backstabbedd him for the win. Worst match of the night. 5 minute crapperoo.

As if that wasn’t enough.
4. Women’s Title: Candice (C) vs. Melina.
Candice wins. I forgot how. Was I supposed to be paying attention to this match? Oops. No one really cared as people went for snacks, and stuff. I don’t blame them. I spent this time talking to someone a row away on how this match and the one before totally just kill the mood.

5. In what had to be tied for match of the night, it was Jeff vs Umaga. Crowd just loved Jeff. Umaga got some cheers here and there as he is cheered by the older audience who likes him because he is a throwback to old school 1980s gimmicks. HOT CROWD. Reaction to all spots. Whisper in the wind by Jeff. Umaga w. Superkick, Samoan Spike. Down! 1, 2, 3.

Jeff Matt talk then candice wets herself with water. The Hardyz stare. Simmons’ damn. Uhm ok. Nice segment, i guess.

6. Morrison Punk was next. Erm. I was mad that I wasn’t into this match because the crowd was dead. I heard people asking “Uh, who?” and all. They need a match of this caliber to hit at least 10 mins. This one ended at like 7 minutes. Disappointing. This just shows that ECW brand is dead. No reaction to Nitro and Punk got cheers. Still, ECW brand is done.

7. Bullrope match. Oh my. We were expecting a longer match, but you have to realize that Dusty isn’t too much of a ring general at this age. He is 65. Thus, we end the match at 6 minutes. Accomplished what it had to do. Very good match for what it was. Cowbell to Dusty’s head. 1, 2, 3. RKO stares Dusty down. Looking to PUNT! But Cody for the save.

8. World Title. 10 minutes of brawl and comedy match. Well, at least to me. Comedy GOLD Khali is. I booed Batista proudly. Although, the cheers from kids just drowned my boos. Batista and Kane took out Khali when Khali goes through the ECW (I think) Table. Some more brawling. Some more joke cracking from me and some of the older audience. What can you say? Comedy GOLD. Batista Bomb, 1, 2, no. Chokeslam to Khali. ONE! TWO! THR- -Khali kicks out! We were really hoping for a Kane win in my section. Some stalling. Khali 2 hand slam to Kane. 1, 2, 3! Da GR8 1 retains.

Booka does some comedy promo. I Lawled on myself. Good stuff from Mr. Booker.

Booos heard all around when Cena came on the titantron. Cheers and boos. Boos and cheers. Lashley comes out to new music with angry rapping. I like. Cena comes out but our boos are dorwned out by kids’ cheers. I gave up. I came in to this match not expecting anything and came out wanting 2 more minutes.

9. 15 minutes of a mix of brawl and false finishes. Cena being over powered by Lindsey. “CENA SUCKS” was a small chant in the middle of the match. “Lashley SUCKS” a bigger chant by the kids. Thiis match was so much better than expected as soon as I saw that the audience was so in ti. So in it, that my whole section, yes the rafters, were on our feet. STFU in middle of teh ring. Lashley gets to the ropes in what seemed to be forever. Lashley, DOMINATOR! 1, 2, THR – – NO! At this point, whoever came out winning, it didn’t matter. We were getting one of Lindsey’s better performances.

Super F U. ONE, TWO, THREE. The kids go wild. Even Cena haters came out clapping. At least I clapped.

Most definetly, thumbs up from me and from my acompanee. The highlight of the show was the hot crowd for the main event and the IC title.

High Fives all around as we just saw two main eventers put all they had in the ring. They tried. They really did. 15 minutes of drama. One of the better live matches I have seen. That and another very good ones I have seen are a SD main event of Chris Benoit vs. Lesnar (Jan 03 SD), Christian vs. Jericho in a cage (May 04 RAW) and a recent SD I attended on 2/27/07 where I saw Benoit vs. MVP vs. Finlay for a MITB spot.

All around, two thumbs up. Lots of fun. Nothing horrible, nothing that can be considered classic either.

“Worst PPV” my ass. You need to see it to have an educated opinion.

Til some other time,
Magno

Glenn Beck

Yes I realized I said I would never make another Benoit post but this is necessary. Glenn Beck’s program from tonight disrespected every single wrestling fan and wrestler ever to walk this Earth. I urge you all to take 5 minutes out of your time just to email him me@glennbeck.com and tell him how you are tired of the media tying the blame of the Benoit tragedy to wrestling and not holding Chris responsible for his actions.

Here’s my email to him.

Mr. Beck,

I used to listen and watch your show for your unbiased spin on many of the events occurring around the world, after tonight I will no longer even acknowledge you as a credible journalist. You and many of the other reporters on the cable news circuit have placed the blame in the Chris Benoit tragedy on everyone besides the man responsible. You so called journalists have neglected to fact check any of your leads, and instead opted to conduct interviews with biased disgruntled ex-wives and former wrestlers. Tonight you didn’t even bother to get the name of the WWE’s most recent Pay Per View correctly, it’s The Great American Bash for the record and not The All American Bash as your show suggested.

Throughout your lengthy take on professional wrestling tonight you made a mockery out of one of America’s oldest past-times. You refused to acknowledge it as a sport and you said there was absolutely no athletic ability to participate. Mr. Beck until you step into a ring you have no right to discredit the hard work the men and women of professional wrestling put in night after night on the road. While in fact the match outcomes of pro wrestling are staged they are largely improvised and not only require extreme training to prevent injury but they also require quick on the fly decisions to keep the fans entertained and to further lower the risk of injuries.

Another glaring problem I had with tonight’s broadcast was when you stated that wrestling has no place on television due to it’s promotion of violence. This is entirely untrue. Never has the WWE or any other wrestling promotion to my knowledge promoted the use of violence in any form. Mr. Beck it saddens me that your dislike for sports entertainment has led you to fabricate stories about it, or just ignore the facts. WWE airs a segment before, after, or during shows stating never to try any of the actions performed on their events. What I don’t understand is how you are so quick to jump on the WWE’s case about violence and such yet you won’t dare to speak out about the hugest promotion of violence there is on our airwaves. I can’t get through an hour of television without seeing an advertisement to join some branch of the US Military. Each ad is the same, “these men and women get paid and have honor for killing, you can too”, that seems like blatant promotion of violence to me. When it all boils down to it wrestling while it might appear violent on the outside is really just a year long sports soap opera. WWE has gone on record most recently in the light of the Benoit tragedy and admitted to being a worked program and downplayed the death of one of it’s “characters” Mr. McMahon. Has a violent show such as CSI, Law and Order, or 24 ever done the same?

Mr. Beck, wrestling is not responsible for any deaths or violent acts. Wrestling doesn’t go up to criminals and tell them to commit crimes, and it didn’t put drugs and the thoughts of murder into Chris Benoit’s mind. While all of you pundits run around trying to raise your ratings by trying to attach this tragedy to wrestling and steroids you have undoubtedly been the best defense team Mr. Benoit could have had if he were still alive. How dare you guys take the blame off this sick, twisted, cold-hearted man to satisfy your own selfish needs. There’s a bigger story here than Wrestler’s Roid Rage Results In Double-Murder Suicide and I know you’re dying to find it out so I will let you in on the secret. The bigger story is how the media rather take the blame off a man that murdered his freaking family and place it on a substance or a company. While some of those suppossed 104 wrestlers dead in this decade may have ultimately died due to drug use in the end no one forced them to take them, it was always their decision and the case is the exact same for Benoit, he didn’t have to do this, he always had a choice.

Mr. Beck you have a choice as well. You can either keep on ignoring the facts of the professional wrestling business and be like your other tasteless peers, or you can step up and be a credible journalist and present the full story and not just the story that tastes better to your advertisers and network executives.

Another title bites the dust

What are they thinking?!

It’s not bad enough that we have The Great Khali disgracing the World Heavyweight Title, but we now have Hornswaggle holding the Cruiserweight Title. What, the fuck, is WWE thinking?!

It’s obvious that WWE doesn’t care about their belts anymore, but let’s take a closer look at this. Does anyone realize who’s held this belt before now? The list of names really shows the problem here. Take a look:

  • Brian Pillman
  • Jushin Liger
  • Dean Malenko
  • Rey Mysterio
  • Ultimo Dragon
  • Chris Jericho
  • Eddie Guerrero
  • Juventud Guerrera
  • Billy Kidman
  • Psicosis
  • Chris Candido
  • Lance Storm
  • Elix Skipper
  • Chavo Guerrero
  • Shane (Gregory) Helms
  • X-Pac
  • Yoshihiro Tajiri
  • Jamie Noble
  • Matt Hardy
  • Spike Dudley
  • Paul London
  • Nunzio
  • Kid Kash

WWE just spit on all these wrestlers and then-some. This was my favorite title in the history of professional wrestling. It’s now dead to me.

I’ll never give WWE another penny.

WWE Great American Bash Discussion

The Bash is tonight. While you may not care, I Do. Cause I happen to be going to such event.

Here be the card:

Not the best of cards, but meh.
By the way, last time PPV was in the Shark Tank, it was Summerslam 2001. Supercard, that Summerslam was.

WWE Title:
Xena (C) vs. Lindsey – No Finish as Snitsky interferes.

World Title:
Da GR8 1 (C) vs. Dave vs. Kane – Khali over all

ECW TItle:
Johnny Nitr – er Morrison (C) vs. CM Punk – Morrison to retain. They need to give Punk the title at a meaningful PPV, but I could be wrong.

Intercontinental Title:
Jamalga (C) vs. Jeff “Stuntman” Hardy – Umaga in a squash

Women’s Title:
candice Michelle (C) vs. Man Lina – Candice.

Texas Bullrope Match:
Dusty Rhodes vs. Rnady Orton – Orton wins with the help of Cody.

US Title –
MVP (C) vs. Matt Hardy – MVP. I can see the belt put on Matt later on down the line. not now

Sandman vs Carlito – Sandman, as it seems VKM is high on Mr. Sandman.

Crusierweight Open – Chavo retains. Who cares.

I don’t know where my seating is, but my hookup said tickets are not bad.

I will be sure to take pictures and stuff.

DISCUSS!

Something to think about

Since the original post has rotated off the front page, and it wasn’t tagged so I can’t pull it back up, I wanted to bring something back up for discussion.

The toxicology reports in the Benoit tragedy showed that Nancy Benoit had a very high blood alcohol level (the actual number escapes me right now). The person doing the report said that it was probably much higher, but tested at a lower number due to the time of death.

This really brings up a lot of questions for me. I’m not trying to start the infamous “did-Benoit-really-do-it” argument, but you have to admit that this raises many more questions than it answers.

John Kronus (George Caiazo) Found Dead

Before Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Hass were the World’s Greatest Tag Team Perry Saturn and John Kronus were “The Best Tag Team In The World”. Sadly we’ve lost another wrestler.

John Kronus was found dead today, July 18th, 2007 at his girlfriend’s apartment in New Hampshire. At this point, no other details are available.

Kronus & Perry Saturn, as The Eliminators, were pushed by Paul Heyman as “The Best Tag Team in the World,” during much of 1996 and 1997, as multiple-time ECW tag champions. New Jack & Kronus also held the title.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

Oh my god, this story is totally true! (crosses fingers)

On the 16th of July, a 5,104,223-CAR PILEUP KILLED THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF DALLAS, TEXAS, and FORT WORTH, TEXAS!!! LEX, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE: I just lied as filler for my return to posting on the blog. Lex is very much alive, and I got this headline from The Onion tabloid website/”newspaper”. I thought it would be humorous because Lex is still alive, and he lives in Texas. Honestly, this lie was so intriguing it made me subscribe via e-mail:P

But something still applies to this post title, and SmackDown! should pay attention to this picture below:

This is the WWE’s version of the “Madden Curse”, as Louie Dee puts it, with every recent owner of the World Heavyweight Title being injured and immediately replaced with someone else in the form of a clusterfu*k battle royal, or a gimmick match we know the end result of 3 days in advance because it’s taped in the first place… This is getting sad. Sad… yet unavoidable? The only solution it seems is to retire the accursed belt, imported from the now dead WCW, and introduce their new crown jewel in the form of a redesigned belt. I guess the ashes of WCW still plague the gold with failure like the WWF Attitude Era plagues the U.S. title with success to it’s wearer. They could go E.T. on us, and just bury the belt in a landfill in California. Hell, just give it to the worst superstars whose contracts are up for renewal, and eliminate them while you have a chance (i.e., Viscera). (By the way, does anyone else think Big Daddy V is Vis’s brother or something? Last night, I confused V for Vis (slight cough because of bad pun)…)
Whew, all this curse talk caused me to look for signs on SvR cases:

(2nd) WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW: Vincent Kennedy McMahon, currently hated by the members of the IWC for fake death stunt.

(3rd) WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006: Batista and John Cena, both champions, both presently hated by IWC members.

(Winner) WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007: Triple H, Rey Mysterio, Batista, John Cena, and Torrie Wilson, 2 injured.

So in conclusion, be careful, members of SmackDown! As you roam the hills of mediocrity, do not find yourself in the middle of even the slightest title push ,or you will end up like the poor souls above…

Signed,
MDP
