The PWBite Rant Episode 24: Stylin’ & Profilin’

Episode 24 of the PWBite Rant is up on time this week. Since Jade is on the run from Jenny McCarthy’s people it’s only Arron, El Nagual and myself. This week we talk about Ric Flair’s departure from WWE, the likelihood of Mick Foley resigning his contract, WWE’s injury list, Kaz’s new gimmick, and we talk about the now infamous Mike Levy incident(if you haven’t seen it yet check the video here). Smackdown! Discussion: Jeff Hardy vs John Morrison

First off pardon me if this post seems a little off I was at a BBQ and I had a few drinks(which I rarely do) and I’m a little buzzed. Anyway it may be the alcohol in my system but tonight’s Smackdown looks excellent on paper it features PWB’s favorite type of match A POLE MATCH!!! Victoria vs. Michelle McCool vs. Kelly Kelly vs. Cherry vs. Maryse the winner will face Natalya Neidhart for the WWE Smackdown Diva’s Championship. And we get a great swash match no not Vladimir Kozlov vs A Random No Name, its Umaga vs. Funaki excited yet?

Seriously, there’s defiantly some things worth watching on tonights show Matt Hardy will defend his US Title in a Fatal-4-Way match with Ken Kennedy, Shelton Benjamin, Chavo Guerrero. Also Jeff Hardy and John Morrison will try to bring all that in ring chemistry they showed on Monday night’s a year ago to Friday when they face off. And in a segment which is sure to be great Triple H will be the guest on MVP’s “VIP Lounge”. Here’s the entire card for tonights show.

Smackdown! Discussion: Edge vs Matt Hardy

Tonights Smackdown! will see the debut of the announcing team of Mick Foley and Jim Ross that alone is worth tuning in to see. But not only do we get that we also have Edge vs Matt Hardy which because of Hardy’s move to ECW could be the last time we see this in a while. Here’s the full card for tonights Smackdown!:

Here are a few interesting wrestling headlines for today.

MVP Qualifies for the Money In The Bank Match

Looks like there will be no Matt Hardy/MVP singles match for the US Title at Wrestlemania as MVP qualified for the Money In The Bank match at a Smackdown/ECW house show this weekend. It was reported last week that Matt Hardy is at 100% and ready to return to the ring and since the number of MITB participants is now at 6 if the WWE decides to go with just a 6 man MITB instead of 8 like last year Matt could be left out in the cold. Also assuming that both Jeff Hardy and MVP retain the championships this would be the first Wrestlemania ever that doesn’t have a US or IC title match on the card. WTF Vince!!!

Wrestlemania 25 Location Revealed

Look like Lex has lucked out it has been confirmed that Wrestlemania 25 will be held on April 5, 2009 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The venue is similar in size to Ford Field which means they will probably get around 75,000 tickets for the event.

Umaga Brand Change and Push

It is being rumored that Umaga will be moved to the Smackdown brand after Wrestlemania as the WWE is looking to put him in a long program with the Undertaker which will conclude with at World Title Match at Summer Slam.

Casket Match on Raw

At this time the only confirmed match for tonights 3 hour Raw special is Untertaker vs Mark Henry in a “Casket Match” which is a return match from Wrestlemania 22.

• Contrary to prior Raw viewings, I tuned in to Raw about 10 minutes earlier than usual. I saw 2, yes two, Raw adverts with Torrie Wilson still on the advert. Way to go, USA Network, way to go.

• Is it wrong of me to get the giggles when I see Cena’s dad get the boot?

• I can’t bear to watch my boy, Umaga, job to J. Hardy. Flipping around, I saw on ABC, Fat March was on. Rosey needed to be taken off the March, because of his past knee injurues. He’s dropped a lot of LBs, by the way.

• Hardy wins via Umaga getting crotched. A fast count occurred as well. This is either a great way to bury Umaga or, it was just an accidental fast count. Because, usually, when someone gets crotched by J. Hardy, it is a setup to the Swanton Bomb.

• Hehe, there is an advert for NetworkTV’s “Crime Time Tuesdays” on USA! Get it, “Crime Time Tuesdays”? Cause Cryme Tyme should have been on ECW instead of just getting released…

• Oh, oh, back from break, Umaga is going on his ‘Roid Rage.

• “Best defense is a good offense.” So, Vince, should the people on the list fight back vs. the feds?

WWE: Notes and Rumors

I got a few things for you guys today so lets go!

WWE Drops the Umaga Vs Jackass match

PWInsider reported that the planned match of the “Jackass cast Vs Umaga was cancel due that the parties could not reach an agreement.

It is being rumored that some guys from the cast decided not to participate after the Benoit Tragedy. Two of the main guys from Jackass, Bam Margera and Johnny Knoxville said they were not going to take part, Margera due to an injury and Knoxville due to unknown reasons.

RAW’s ratings drop

WWE RAW has seen a drop in the ratings since the Benoit tragedy which has continued until this past edition of RAW.

The recent results have been:

June 18: 4.1
June 25: 3.83 (Benoit tribute show)
July 2: 3.7
July 9: 3.35
July 16: 3.4
July 23: 3.4

Ironically the ECW and Smackdown shows haven’t had a significant change in numbers. In the past 6 weeks ECW has dropped from a 1.6 to a 1.34 while Smackdown has maintained an average of 2.5 and 2.4

Edge out for more time than expected

The Ex World Champion Edge was operated this past weekend and they found that his pectoral muscle was torn completely and not partial as expected.

They are hoping he can return in about 5 months. Originally he was expected to return from 3 to 4 months.

ECW wrestler dropped

WWE let Renee Dupree go from their ECW roster. Until now the reasons are unknown. Renee has not been seen on TV for the last couple of months.

P.O.G’s Heel View:10 Common Things

There are many who think that TNA and WWE are 2 completely different companies. I mean with obvious differences in business models and product emphasis to more subtle ones like PPV production and merchandising /marketing. If you look closer ,you realize that both these companies aren’t that dissimilar .Of course-the quality of wrestling in TNA is way better than in the WWE…..duh…….a big duh.Here’s a look at 10 things that these companies have in common. Bear in mind that this isn’t a comparison as much as it is a rundown.

1.The successful conversions: Edge and Christian: Both companies have managed to convert these 2 once midcarders into successful heavyweight champions. Both Canadians, both blondes specializing in TLC matches and both are amazing on the mic.Their gimmicks work well too; an instant classic and a rated ‘R’ superstar. They even dress alike – no formal attire, rather shirts and jeans.

2.Unsuccessful conversions: Orton and Rhino: A ‘legend killer’ and a ‘war machine’. Both have been heavyweight champions just once. Both their names start with the letter ‘R’ .Both were defeated by their respective company’s mainstays(HHH and Jarrett) in their title defence match and were champs for less than five weeks .Both are regulars on ppv’s and will hopefully do much better in the future.

3.Monsters, Inc: Abyss and Kane: Both are well….. ‘Monsters’ but are also 2 guys above 6’5 who can put on a decent match. Kane used to wear a mask, Abyss still does. Kane’s mask is gone-Abyss’s will most likely go too. One uses fire to hurt people, the other uses tacks. Both have had a ‘torrid childhood’. One is from ‘Death Valley’; the other from ‘Parts Unknown’. Both are places not found on a standard world map. Both have been heavyweight champs once.

4.The Icons: Taker and Sting: Two freaky dudes who come out at night, hangout in areas with very little lighting. One uses smoke for extra freakiness, the other uses facepaint.Both above 40 but can put on matches that would make guys half their age squeal in their pants. Both don’t like to do house shows and can afford to work on their own terms. Both wrestle in black attire and I just love to see these two guys go at it even after so many years. They also wear gloves and a full body suit while wrestling.

5.The Wierdos: Boogeyman/Thorn & Serotonin: Good gimmicks but the creative teams haven’t made them work. The wwe’s got a blood drinker and a worm eater (yummy) both who can’t put on a decent match.TNA’s got 3(-1) guys who can actually wrestle but walk around like the 3 blind mice .Either way the gimmicks have overshadowed the wrestling, they created a bang when they debuted but are soooo boring now. (Note: to feel the full effect of the word ‘boring’ in the previous sentence, imagine it being said the way MVP says ‘ballin’).

6.The Powerhouses: Steiner & Lashley: Two guys with DAMN impressive physiques. Both with amateur wrestling backgrounds which sadly don’t come into play during their matches. Both have enormous upper body strength and can surprise you with feats of athleticism, eg: Steiner’s Frankensteiner at Lockdown and Lashley’s jump on the cage door towards UUUUMAGA in the pre Wrestlemania period.

7.The Samoans: Joe and Umaga: Two 300 pound plus, guys from Samoa. Amazingly flexible. Both were on undefeated streaks which were ended by each company’s current champion; Joe-Angle and Umaga-Cena.Both have been tier 2 champs more than once and are assets for the future.

8.The Indians: Khali & Dutt: A ‘Punjabi Frankenstein’ and a ‘Guru’. They couldn’t be more different. One is a long haired, Vile, Putrid, Punjabi spewing, Snail paced wrestler. The other is lightning fast, Short haired, Profound, Spiritual and a Contemplating wrestler. Both were originally intended to woo(not equal to Flair’s Vooooooooooooooooooooooo………….ooooo) the Indian population but have unexpectedly come into their own.

9.The Mainstays: HHH and Jeff Jarrett: The WWE and TNA are incomplete without these guys. Keep them face or turn them heel, they’re just too damn good at it and fun to watch. Both have held the world championships in their companies more times than anyone else. Both will use any means necessary to win their matches. Both attack their opponents with their prized weapons – a hammer and a guitar and both are currently out of action and have been from roughly the same time (coincidence??).

10.The Young’uns: Lethal & Dykstra: 2 guys both under 23 .Youngest rosterites of their respective companies.Dykstra –a good wrestler (according to some) and Lethal: a damn good wrestler. One acts like macho man, the other thinks he is macho man.They’re both entertaining (Lethal – a lot more).

• The industry trade publication Cable 360 is reporting that the USA Network is in talks with the WWE to permanently expand Monday Night Raw to three hours.(take that TNA) (Source)
