Wrestlemania Thoughts

With rumors circulating that on tonight’s Monday Night Raw anniversary that they will begin to set up a possible Wrestlemania main event tonight it got me thinking once again to what I would book if I was Vince McMahon. The key to Wrestlemania is to not be afraid to show a certain person, or people, the money to make the all time greatest Wrestlemania match ever happen.

Dark Match
Cade and Murdoch vs London and Kendrick

A simple match to warm up the crowd, especially with London and Kendrick to start the evening right.

Opening Match
ECW Title
CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio

These two could work some real magic together to start the show off right. I don’t know if they have any real ideas what to do with Rey Mysterio at this point, so this makes sense to get him involved in the ECW Title match.

Money In The Bank
John Morrison vs Bobby Lashley vs Shelton Benjamin vs Umaga vs Santino Marella vs Kane

You have two men who can do great things with ladders (Morrison and Benjamin) a man who can talk (Santino) and enough big beasts to make this match interesting. I think I might actually finally give Kane the win here, he’s been in enough already.

Women’s Title
Beth Phoenix vs Mickie James

A breather for the most part, but with two female wrestlers who can work well enough to keep the fans interested.

IC Title Match
Jeff Hardy vs Mr. Kennedy

I know we’ve seen this match plenty of times before, but do we really have any other options? The match should be decent enough, maybe through in a gimmick as well.

US Title Match
MVP vs Matt Hardy

You can continue to build this up all the way to Wrestlemania, they’ve done a good job so far.

Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho
When I was devising this, I couldn’t decide what to do with these two men so I thought perhaps a rematch of one of the best matches of all time was in order.

World Title Match
Edge vs Undertaker

Yes, I’d have Edge win the title off of Batista at Armageddon and lead up to this match where both streaks are on the line.

Batista vs Randy Orton
This would come about due to the finish of the Royal Rumble, where a certain someone eliminated both of them at the end to win the Rumble.

WWE Title Match
HHH vs Ric Flair

Yes, HHH would beat Orton on Raw for the title after Armageddon and Flair would win the Rumble to get his shot at greatness at Wrestlemania. Hell, I’d even give Flair the victory here…with a little help from Arn Anderson.

THE MAIN EVENT
Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold Steve Austin vs THE ROCK

Yes, I would make this a triple threat match. Wait, I’d make it a three way dance where Austin pins Hogan and Rock pins Austin. This is the match where I don’t care how much money The Rock asked for Vince McMahon should pay it and give us the greatest main event in Wrestlemania history.

My Top 15 Raw Moments

The WWE has put out their top 15 Raw Moments of all time, so I thought I would to. Now these are my own opinions, things that occurred that have stood out in my mind and stood the test of time. Ironically enough, I don’t think anything is past the “Attitude” era. I think the only things that got on the probable list were the Radicalz showing up, Angel’s Cage Moonsault, Hurrican beating Rock, Rock singing in Sacramento and Matt Hardy’s invasion of Raw, which did eventually make the list.

13. Bret Screwed Bret

12. Rock, This is Your Life

11. Paging Dr. Austin

10. A Degenerate Nation

9. I’m Gonna Make Your Life Miserable

8. Mankind Wins Gold

7. Raw Is Jericho

6. DX Invades WCW

5. Austin Throws IC Belt Off The Bridge

4. Pillman Must Protect This House!

3. Three Faces of Foley

2. Raw is ECW

1. Raw Is Owen Hart

Wrestlemania 24 Card

This was spurned by a post below and I thought I’d give what I think should be this year’s card, albeit with a little more insight. It’s going to be one of the bigger Wrestlemanias ever since it is outside in a stadium so expect the E to actually go all out, not like the last two Manias.

Dark Match-Exclusive Online Match
Cade and Murdoch vs Jesse and Festus
The E tries to adapt to the new technology and shows the dark match live over the internet. You have the traditional tag team match which appears to have been relegated to dark match spot for Manias now, with two teams that people seem to enjoy.

Opening Match
WWE Hall of Fame Match
Cody Rhodes with Dusty Rhodes in his corner vs DH Smith with Bret Hart in his corner
Want to know how to get the crowd excited and hot? Put Rhodes (who owned Florida in his day) and Hart out there first and let the next generation show what they can do.

Umaga vs Kane
This is for Vince, his penchant for big men, and to give these two worthy performers on the card. Nothing special, just pure power.

Women’s Title Match
Beth Phoenix vs Mickie James
If you’re going to have a Women’s Title match at Wrestlemania you need to put your two best performers so you don’t get embarrassed. Perhaps add Victoria and make it a three way.

Chris Jericho vs Mr. Kennedy
The main event without a stipulation or title on the line. The crowd would be insanely hot for this, though I hesitate as I want to put Randy Orton here so Kennedy follows through with his promise to wrestle for the title at mania.

ECW Title Match
CM Punk vs Jamie Noble
For the Ring of Honor faithful out there in the crowd. Just let these two do whatever they can in a ten minute time frame.

Money In The Bank
Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy vs Rey Mysterio vs MVP vs John Morrison vs Elijah Burke vs Finlay vs Santino Marella vs Gregory Helms or Chavo Guerrero depending on Helms’ health
It’s Money in the Bank, does more need to be said?

World Title Match
Batista vs Randy Orton
Let the former young bucks of Evolution go at it, this of course is after Randy Orton wins the Royal Rumble and decides to take on Batista instead of HBK after some…persuasion.

One Man Must Lose No DQ No Countout
Edge vs The Undertaker
You put the records on the line

WWE Title Match
Shawn Michaels vs HHH
For as many times as they have wrestled, they have never wrestled at a Wrestlemania, arguably where they both perform their best work at.

The Consequences

A thought occurred to me as I watched the latest viral video from the WWE and I wanted to post it to all of you and wonder if you’re thinking along the same lines.

How badly do you think the fans will shit on this angle if this is the return of Chris Jericho?

I mean it could be Edge, Lashley or someone else coming back from injury. Hell, it could be some huge Ultimate Warrior return for all we know. I just have this feeling that if it isn’t Chris Jericho that the fans will completely shit all over it. The only person other then Jericho that might save it would be someone the level of the Rock. Any other performer and they’d treat it like a Snitsky match.

like seriously wtf?!

Latest Jericho Prediction

This last video has 19_Launch in it, which leads us to believe it will be November 19th. That will be the Monday after Survivor Series, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Can we set it up any better? Randy Orton finally vanquishes the threat of HBK at Survivor Series, he’s out to start Raw and we…break the walls down…

I don’t know if there isn’t a better time. Survivor Series is one of the “big four” ppvs for the WWE. Folks will be tuning in to see what happened, especially after one of the bigger pay per views. To me, it merely makes too much sense. Plus that gives the E plenty of time to wind down the Orton/HBK angle.

WWE Hall of Fame 2008/2009

To give folks a taste of some of the various points I will be writing about, here is a post I made last month that many didn’t see since it was posted over on the blog like seriously wtf?!. Originally posted September 13, 2007.
————————————-

Someone on JR’s blog asked him yesterday or so about the Hall of Fame and if Sabu would be inducted into it? First off, Sabu? Yes, he has had quite an impact on this sport but some would argue if it has been good or bad. If it is for toughness alone he should be in there without a doubt. There are others more deserving then Sabu that likely would never make it in, which saddens me. So today I give to you the next fourteen folks I believe will be inducted into the WWE hall of fame the next two years.

2008 inductions

The British Bulldogs-This is a long time coming and I think this plus another induction this year would be the perfect time to introduce the new Hart Family, much like they did with Cody Rhodes this year. The real highlight would be to see Dynamite accept his award and speak to some of the people, I’m looking at you Jeff Hardy, who take too many risks.
Inductor-Harry Smith

Ravishing Rick Rude-An IC champ, a former WCW Champ, and one of the most hated wrestlers in history. There may be some bad blood from when he went to WCW, but that should be over now and he deserves to be in the hall of fame with his best friend Curt Henning. He was probably the best heel talker other then Bobby Heenan in the WWE in the late 80s.
Inductor-Bobby Heenan

The Model Rick Martel
-He had a very illustrious career, multiple champion everywhere he went and I think he deserves to be there. If Strongbow and Steele are in the Hall of Fame, Martel should be as well. They even gave him the crappy ass Model gimmick and somehow he managed to work it, hat has to go off on that.
Inductor-Tito Santana

Scott Hall-He’s never gonna wrestle again I wager so why not induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. Without a doubt Shawn Michaels might have never become the showstopper if it wasn’t for his matches with Hall. He was also the cool bad character long before there was a Stone Cold running around. He definitely change the business with the nWo and would assume his friends would push for this.
Inductor-Shawn Michaels

Terry Funk-I was shocked when I learned that he wasn’t in the WWE Hall of Fame. The grandfather of hardcore without a doubt deserves to be in there. We all know his contributions to this sport, and the get the bonus of having Mick Foley induct him into the Hall of Fame, how can that not work? Thankfully retirement is not a requirement for enshrinement.
Inductor-Mick Foley

The Big Two Inductions

Owen Hart-The King of Harts, the Black Hart, the sole survivor, The Rocket Owen Hart; it’s a long time coming. I would hope this would happen about the same time an Owen Hart DVD was released as that is long overdue as well. Here you get the bonus of possibly having Bret Hart there once again to induct his lil baby brother and the reaction and tears would be legendary. Owen Hart deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, they OWE him that much.
Inductor-Bret Hart

The Rock-This year’s Wrestlemania is in Florida, why not have the biggest name induction be The Rock? He’s never going to wrestle again, might as well induct him. I think people are easily fooled since he is still listed on their Superstars page, but The Rock is a Hollywood star now, let us finally bury the career of the Rock in the WWE and induct him properly. You could even have him have a small segment at Mania much like Hogan did, and who knows, maybe that MIGHT rekindle something.
Inductor-Steve Austin

Hall of Fame 2009

Rock N Roll Express-Keeping in the tradition of inducting one tag team each year into the Hall of Fame I give to you maybe the most over tag team ever in the South. I’m not sure who would induct them, but you could have someone like the Hardys, or maybe even Arn Anderson or someone of that nature. They are well deserving and hopefully there isn’t any bad blood to allow them to be held back from induction.
Inductor-Arn Anderson

Jim Neidhardt-Some may question this, but here is another reason to get Bret Hart at the Hall of Fame. Then again, his daughter could be WWE Women’s Champion at the time and could induct him as well. Bret is already in and so to have the Hart Foundation complete in the Hall of Fame you have to induct The Anvil, especially since someone who performed in the 80s he looks the same he deserves some sort of reward.
Inductor-Naddie Neidhardt

Mick Foley-He’s also retired, it’s Wrestlemania 25, and by god does Mick deserve to be in. People find it odd that my favorite wrestler of all time is Cactus Jack. Not Mick as the other gimmicks didn’t get me as much, but Cactus touched a part of me most folks don’t know about. The fans love Foley, after all, Foley is GOoD. Have Terry Funk induct him, or better yet, have Al Snow induct Mick Foley, that would be comedy gold.
Inductor-Al Snow

Kevin Nash-Now this is baring that he is no longer under TNA contract or something, but Nash does deserve to be in the Hall of Fame as well. Having Shawn Michaels or Scott Hall induct him would be a great joy and amusement to see happen. We all know Nash is one of the funniest performers of all time and without a doubt his speech would be something for the ages.
Inductor-Shawn Michaels

Miss Elizabeth-This has been put off for way too long and as the first Diva in the WWE, Miss Elizabeth deserves to be in here right next to Sherri, Moolah and all the others. Though he tenure may not have been as long as others, the is no question as to the impact she brought to the product. I can think of three storylines that were golden that revolved directly around her.
Inductor-Trish Stratus

The Big Two Inductions

Macho Man Randy Savage-Yes, it’s Wrestlemania 25 and Randy Savage needs to be here, if for nothing else the absolute comedy gold that his crazy ass would spout during his speech. He was one of the most over wrestlers of all time, and in the 80s I would argue there was no one bigger then Savage, Hogan, Flair and Piper. We all know the issues allegedly surrounding his getting inducted, but for the fans sake I hope both sides can come together and work something out for the fans. I just hope Bonesaw is ready.
Inductor-Dusty Rhodes

The Nature Boy Ric Flair-Without a doubt this is THE greatest wrestler of all time. Some argue, well he lost his titles all those times. Yes, to put people over, but he always ended up getting it back. He lives and breathes this business and would always be my number one draft pick for building a wrestling company. There is no one in this business who performs quite the way Flair does. His counterpart also needs to be in the hall of Fame, both of them. That of course is Arn Anderson and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, but I suppose that is for 2010.
Inductor-HHH (you know he’s gonna want to do this)

Realizing who wasn’t already in the hall of fame, here is also a short list for those who should be inducted in 2010.
The Road Warriors, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, Ricky Steamboat, The Midnight Express, Demolition and Chris Benoit.

Yes, I realize it is a heavy tag team year, but all four teams deserve to be inducted.
