Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: RAW 04/08/08

It’s the sixth edition of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and (possibly shortly) PPV review of what made me give a lone standing ovation as well as what forced me to commit double murder suicide on my wife and young child (both of which I do not have). It’s August 5th already, I’m late getting into the August 4th episode of RAW:

Yea – Adamle is not that bad. This opening of JBL and Jericho is a bit too long and boring, but it’s not horrible. CM Punk vs JBL an Y2J for the #1 contendership. Please no Triple Threat.

Yea – Beth beats up Mickie after her match, then we get some Santino/Beth ass-grabbing fun. After the break we get Adamle backstage and he books double title Mickie & Kingston vs Beth & Marella.

Boo – As Cole says, a “pound and ground” Cena package. Batista interview where he says something.

Boo – RAW returns with a stripper in the ring, but she still has he cloths on, what the fuck? Oh, it’s Layla, so I was close. Regal interrupts to my relief to tell us he’s the King. Noble out, and he and Regal get into a scuffle. I guess Regal isn’t getting that Jeff Hardy post-suspension push, maybe he’s in line for the Kennedy post-suspension mid-card burial.

Boo – Punk out for the 10 o’clock main event. It’s just the World Heavyweight Champion, it’s not that important.

Yea – JBL over! No Triple Threat match! And Y2J’s trunks I dig, a new look for the new Chris Jericho. Exciting match because I so wanted someone to win.

Boo – HBK’s lost his smile. Best case scenario we get an impromptu match of Y2J vs HBK at SummerSlam, either that or have Kane kick the shit out of him. Speaking of Kane;

Boo – Is Kane heel or face? He’s been heel for a month and now he’s jobbing out Matt Striker. King says that a monster beating up a jobber is an “Adamle Original”. Kane tells us that ‘He’ is dead.

Yea – No Jenny McCarthy Generation Pseudoscience Foundation Against Autistic People advertisement; did I miss it or is this done.

Yea – This is pushing it but the Smackdown Rebound. I’ve seen that ending 3 times now. Edge vs Undertaker is the match that makes me want to buy SummerSlam.

Boo – Batista Package, followed by one of Cena’s signature boring crappy, “I’m Mr. Face, my match will be the most epic ever” promo. WWE can say Cena vs Batista will be “The Ultimate Showdown” all they want, it’s not going to change the fact that it will end up being on par with Hogan vs Warrior II.

Boo – Cody Rhodes

Boo – John Cena

Yea – I couldn’t believe it but this Rhodes & DiBiase vs Cena & Batista was actually an ok match. Rhodes & DiBiase got some good offense, nice double teams. The Batista not tagging in and Cena slapping Dave was surprising as I expected a Cena/HBK style build, by which I mean no build, but there is actually a little tension here.

Boo – Cena & Batista win the World Tag Titles. I didn’t understand it in Cena vs Michaels and I don’t understand here. How does giving these two the belts intensify the feud? It doesn’t. They use this as a cheap way of adding something for the marks to an otherwise blank storyline without any risk of one of them losing face support.

In closing, the show wasn’t all bad, but that damn John Cena, I hate John Cena, he’s really bad, his wrestling is overratted, his promos are overratted. But at least we got Santino’s return to PPV, right?

Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: RAW 06/09/08

Upon request, it’s the fifth installment of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and (if I ever order another one) PPV review of what made me expel urine with excitement, as well what caused anal leakage with disappointed surprise (yeah…). For the June 9, 2008 edition of RAW, Let’s start off with a:

Boo – Right off the bat McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania has disaster written all over it.

Yea – Kennedy vs Burchill. Oh how I’ve missed mid-card feuds, but lets not let this get stale now, WWE.

Boo – This Million Dollar Mania is horrible, nice botch on the first call.

Yea – The Women of RAW continue to put on a show, probably the match of the night for me. With TNA’s ladies division slightly sagging and RAW’s being greatly refreshed, I’m having a better time with the Diva’s of RAW. I guess it’s just a couple weeks before Michelle McCool comes to ruin everything good they’ve got going.

Boo – McMahon’s dumb gimmick again. This time Vince manages to dial the phone. NEXT.

Boo – I think something happened between the two McMahon gimmicks, but I can’t remember what it was, maybe a Triple H segment. Anyhoo, now Charlie Haas (whoever that guy is) has to kiss some strippers; out comes Maria to make out with the jobber. First Snoop Dog now this; I don’t know, does the slut gimmick get over with you guys? Uh oh, here’s Mae Young, uh ha ha. Terrible.

Boo – This had to have been the worst JBL vs Cena match yet. Triple H is boring here, I liked it in 2006 when he kept saying how bad Cena was.

Yea – HBK on the highlight reel. This is the best story in wrestling. It’s so awesome not knowing where they’re going with this angle, finally some unpredictability. Plus Y2J heel equals Y2J possible world champion.

Boo – Snitsky

Yea – Umanga

Boo – Cody Rhodes and Holly. Note to the tag team champions; For a hot tag: It matters more about how much excitement is built up during the match, and less about how slow you can roll to your partner.

Yea – What a great surprise, Randy Orton back early from injury! How unexpect – oh, it’s just DiBiase Jr…

Boo – DiBiase Jr. Boring promo.

Yea – We knew it was coming, but the $2 giveaway was still funny.

Yea – Holy Shit. I laughed.

Boo – I hate to say it, but Santino is getting kind of old. I’d rather see him manage a upper mid-carder in a slightly more serious role.

Yea – The only good thing about this McMahon game show dealy is it has cut the backstage crap to almost nothing.

Boo – Cena on commentary makes this match even more boring than it already is.

Boo – Not another Triple Threat. I can’t wait for Regal’s main event push when he comes off his 60 day suspension. Seriously, are they adding Hardy into this match? Ugh.

Boo – McMahon keeps forgetting to ask the password, which is kind of funny. Hey everyone, sign up for  next week’s McMahon’s Stupid Wrestling Money Giveaway!

In closing, there was some god stuff, but it was a mostly garbage RAW; but it was more like an old furniture garbage as opposed to the pile of dog crap garbage we got from Smackdown. It was a show for the new viewers they are expecting, and I’m not going to be surprised if the rating is greatly improved.

Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: Smackdown May 9th, 2008. DVRers beware.

It’s the fourth installment of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and (still holding out for a) PPV review of what made me feel happy on the inside, as well as what made me set fire to things on the outside. DVRers beware, I’m getting right into May 9th’s episode of WWE Smackdown:

Yea – Edges shirt is great. I don’t usually mark out for Canada-wear, but the same cannot be said about Edge. No Khali, no Mark Henry, sounds like a good tournament.

Yea – lol at Torrie still cut into the SD! intro.

Boo – I’ve been defending WWE’s booking of CM Punk, but I don’t agree with the way this Matt Hardy vs Punk match was booked. A quick match dominated mostly by Hardy that buries Punk. If they want to keep Punk a face (which I want them to do at least for a little while longer), they best be moving him to a real show so a push can occur.

Boo – I hate Hornswoggle, where’s JBL to give beat down when you need him?

Boo – Finlay vs MVP. The match starts out good, some nice chains, but after the commercial its just rest holds. Finlay back suplex to a double pin. Garbage ending with no explanation as to how this affects the tournament.

Boo – Two female wrestlers and a model. Kelly vs Natalya w/ Victoria. It actually isn’t horrible before they cut to the back to show Michelle McCool watching on a monitor, for no other reason than to piss off Kanadian I suppose. Natalya rightfully jobs out Kelly with an HBK quality Sharpshooter (thats a bad thing).

Yea – John Morrison vs Batista. This is a good one, Morrison dominates for most of the match and Big Dave does a nice job selling; at least an OK job selling. Batista gets in control at the end, cool midair spear, Batista Bomb, Dave wins, Morrison goes over.

Yea – I know Big Show vs Tommy Dreamer doesn’t sound like a wrestling fan’s ideal match, but I’m pretty happy by this time with all the wrestling on this show. Quick match, of course Show over.

Yea – Chavo vs Kane. This aside from Wrestlemania, I haven’t seen any of these guys’ matches together. I usually find Chavo very boring, but a lot like the Batista match, I liked the dynamic of the big guy getting beat up. Kane over with a SUNSET FLIP COUNTER, YES!

Yea – Just thought I’d mention the enjoyment I got out of Foley’s color. He’s not the greatest ever, but compared to Adamle/Tazz, Tenay/West, and stale JR/Jerry “the stupid” Lawler, Foley is good.

Boo – Vladimir Kolslaw

Boo – The battle royal begins, and MVP keeps going to the outside. Heel or not, leaving the ring during a battle royal is stupid.

BOO! – I’m so sick of Batista vs Taker (*I wrote as I watched)

YES! – EDGE! EDGE! EDGE! EDGE! I dig this angle to get Edge vs Undertaker III. They do had to get three matches out of this feud, at least now they can make the story a little interesting. I like this.

To summerize, I thought it was a good show, lots of wrestling, they cut most of the crap. Am I interested in next weeks Smackdown? Yes. Am I an Edge mark? I say rightfully yes. Am I going to buy Judgement Day? Not a chance.

Is There No Pleasing You?

1mania.jpg

As I lay half asleep awaiting the replay of Smackdown, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be marvelous if Randy Orton retained the WWE Title at Wrestlemania 24. It’s the perfect plan, no one would be expecting that; and with all the criticism of this Wrestlemania being far too predictable, a bold move like this would surely surprise us all. On top of the surprise, having the young, brash champion topple the crafty veteran, and replace the unstoppable force would be a Wrestlemania moment that WM23 missed out on. Think about it, JR shouting with the excitement, “Randy Orton has done it! Against all odds, Randy Orton is Walking out of the main event of Wrestlemania 24 still the WWE Champion!” But then I thought, would the smart fans take a finish like this and enjoy it for the surprise and historical value, or would they turn it around and complain that they have to endure another month of headlocks and mediocre promos?

The chances of Orton winning seem very unlikely at best anyway, so what about Cena? Assuming it’s a good match with an exciting finish, would a Cena win be all that bad? Well, I think so, although I am picking a John Cena victory, but it wouldn’t be as bad as the last two Mania main event finishes. At least we had a nice little break of Cena as champion.

Finally, the odds on favorite to walk out of the Orlando with the WWE Chamionship, Triple H. Most of PWB as decided that Triple H is going to win and once again be the official RAW hole digger (because you bury people in holes). The accusation that Triple H doesn’t put people over is arguable, but the fact is, aside from a two hour reign that made No Mercy a good PPV, HHH has not held the WWE Title for 3 years. If he wins the title tomorrow it will be a fine finish that won`t spoil the rest of the show.

My question to the PWBites is this: Is there finish to the main event that you will enjoy? Or no matter what happens, will you complain about it?

Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: iMPACT! 03/06/08

It’s the third installment of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and (hopefully one day) PPV review of what made me shudder with terror, as well as what made me shriek with orgasmic pleasure (sigh). Off to an if-y start, let’s get right into TNA iMPACT!:

Yea – Angle Alliance Promo was a fine formulaic show opener.

Boo – Booker and Corny in ring, then Rhoode comes out; I don’t know, it might just be me, but since his debut, Booker has really bored me to death. I don’t care about this feud, and I have a bad feeling it will end up with Sharmell slapping Rhoode in the face and I’ll have to sit through the face team of Book and Sharmell, which I hate.

Boo – 17 minutes in we finally get some wrestling. Jacknife powerfall, was that a botch? Chokeslam for the win, AJ looks like shit after a loss to Old-Man Nash.

Boo – Black Reign sucks. “I will eat your face off”; new Black Reign t-shirt? I miss Goldust.

Yea – Fine battle royal. It made the Rellik look like kind of shitty, but I hate the monster division anyway.

Boo – Why should I care about the stipulation? First of all, it’s a stupid gimmick that is dumb and stupid; and secondly, 3D may not even be allowed to compete unless they lose a bunch of weight in less than 3 days.

Yea – Tomko vs Joe was pretty good. Tenay, keep in mind he’s calling a first blood match, “I think Joe gave Tomko that pile driver on that steel ramp to try to make him bleed, try and bust him open!” Thank you for clarifying that, Mike. Short & sweet, and it didn’t burry Joe.

Boo – Who cares about Elevation X? Who cares about Rhino? Who cares about this program?

Boo – The Mitchell promo wasn’t that bad, he made the best of what he had, but it still sucked purely because of the content.

Boo – Looks like Judas Mesias took advantage of Wal-Mart’s “Leap Year Weekend Halloween Mask Sale”; that was spooky! Garbage match, gore, Rhino over, Storm beat down, quickly cut to the back.

Yea – Awesome Kong vs Salinas Martinez was a bit of a disappointment, but it’s still 100 times better than the shit WWE is doing with their models, does anybody care about Maria now that she’s just a dumb stupid person that nobody cares about?

Yea – Cage vs Angle was excellent, I really enjoyed it. The show could have gone either way depending on the booking of this match, and they made the right decision in letting two guys that have great chemistry together, and are two of the best in the business today go out there and give the fans a match without interference or stupid gimmicks, just a good old school cage match to finish the feud. It made me want to buy Destination X. Stellar match, thank you TNA.

To conclude, I enjoyed the wrestling but the stories suck-ass. What you guys think of it?

Love, Kanadian

Is Anybody Buying This?

aao_sunday1.jpg

TNA’s Against All Odds PPV is tomorrow night, and with the pre-taped barbed wire massacre match, Rhoode vs Booker T, and the exact same main event as last year’s show in Cage vs Angle for the World Title with Samoa Joe as the special inforcer, I thought I’d pose the question; Is anybody buying this?

TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE!

Kanadian’s Quick Rumble Predictions

I usually wouldn’t make a prediction post, but I’m really exited for this years Royal Rumble PPV, so just a few quick predictions, as well as a forum for fellow PWBites’ Rumble foreseeings:

Jericho vs JBL – Jericho gets DQed, followed by a brawl. Probably the second match.

MVP vs Ric Flair – Is this for the US title? If it is, then MVP gets counted out, if it isn’t, MVP gets pinned after a low blow. I’d say he taps out, but they are not putting over the figure four enough, so a pin is how I see it.

Edge vs Rey Mysterio – looks to be a good match, It’s been mostly a throw away feud, but I’ve been entertained. Edge obviously retains, there’s going to be a lot of interference, the Edgeheads, maybe CM Punk or Chavo Guerrero, and it will be fine.

Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy – I’ve really enjoyed this feud, and it’s a tough one to call. Orton will probably dominate most of the match, Hardy will shine a bit, and a nice RKO will finish the match. Orton retains, and Hardy will be looking strong for Wrestlemania.

The Royal Rumble Match – I’ll keep it short and sweet. If Triple H enters first or thirtieth, he wont win, but if he ‘draws’ second or third, or any number from 26 to 29, he will win. Undertaker will win if he enters anywhere after 2oth. I say Hornswoggle enters 7th or 8th and will stay in a good 30 minutes or more. Foley will start his Wrestlemania program, HBK may as well. I doubt Big Show returns here, but maybe. My pick for winner is Undertaker.

OK, that’s me, lets see what PWB is looking forward to at this year Royal Rumble.

Love,

Kanadian

Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: RAW 01/08/08

It’s the second edition of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and PPV review of what brought a tear to my eye as well as what made me cry myself to sleep. I hope this works as well as last time; here we go into WWE Monday Night RAW.

Yea – I’ve been an off and on Triple H supporter since his summertime return, but It is now that he is really showing what he’s made of. Seeing that serious, pissed off side of Triple H when he attacked Regal to open the show is exactly what I want to see going into WWE’s biggest time of year.

Yea – I know it was kind of stupid, but I think that this masked Charlie Haas is a good thing if it gets him pushed.

Yea – Kennedy got the pin, but it was Michaels who he went over. 2007 was not the year of Ken Kennedy that so many of us wanted it to be, but he’s of to a good start in 2008. Lets hope they keep up this push, because I want to see Ken succeed.

Boo – Bob Holly has a fake afro & an apple; Sanjya joke from King (sigh). Carlito has a blond wig and Holly tights. Carlito mocks Holly’s chops in the corner, but the crowd doesn’t get it (that was kind of funny). King says, “Only on RAW you’d see something like this.” Couldn’t have said it better myself, Jerry.

Boo – Maria’s pretty and all, but isn’t that what the internet is for. A five way lingerie pillow fight, and, what’s this, it’s Ashley returning to a Michael Cole sized pop. Why is she so skinny, she was on survivor for like a week, how is she going to take anything that remotely resembles a bump. This was horrible, where’s Snitsky when you need him. Remember when Kurt angle fired all the Smackdown divas when he was General Manager. Ugh, horrible match.

Yea – Triple H vs William Regal. I’m one of Regal’s biggest supporters, I think he could be the biggest heel in the company. We all knew who was going over, but this was far from a squash. It was almost all Regal for most of the match, with HHH hulking up to make the comeback and bloodying Regal up real nice. Pedigree, donzo, very enjoyable match.

Boo – Hornswoggle. I hate Hornswoggle. Ashley’s pushing it, but I would rather endure a McCool push then I would watch Hornswoggle take up 5 backstage segments and a 10 minute match on RAW and Smackdown every week.

Yea – This feud between JBL and Chris Jericho is awesome. I get sick of the John Cena, “promo and a tag match” PPV build up style. To see them get physical like this is what makes me want to buy the PPV. The dynamic between the two is great, and I look forward to a long, hard fought feud.

Yea – I hate Hornswoggle, but Foley is good. Foley at the Royal Rumble foreshadows Foley at Mania, because if history has taught us anything it’s that it repeats itself, like in 2004, because if history has taught us anything it’s that it repeats itself (Denis Miller joke). It was a shitty match with a shitty finish, but I dig Foley in the Rumble.

Yea – Jeff Hardy vs Umanga. It was an exciting cage match, one of the most exiting in a long while. “What’s Hardy going to do, a Swanton off the cage? No, he’ll break his neck; how about a Swanton on a table, is Orton going to bring a table into the match?” The answers: all no. But we did get a bunch of high spots, Hardy coming off strong for his title shot, and a stellar cage-top Whisper in the Wind. I’d seen this match before, as it had elements of Benoit vs Kurt Angle seven or so years ago, with Orton taking Austin’s place. That match was real good, and so was this one.

Kanadian’s Wrestlemania 24 Card

Hello fellow PWBites. As we bring in the new year, I thought I’d go ahead and make the first post of 2008 (assuming no one posts as I write). There have been numerous posts in the recent and not so recent past by the PWBites that have given their two cents on what they either expect, would like, or a combination of both, out of this upcoming Wrestlemania. Now It is my turn to give what I think is the best possible case scenario out of the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania 24.

I have spent many grueling minutes deciding on a card, and order of said card, that would satisfy everyone from Vince to marks to smarks, and a card that could actually happen. So without further a due, here it is:

Money In The Bank: MVP vs Umanga vs Rey Mysterio vs Carlito vs Jeff Hardy vs Santino Marella vs Kane vs Shelton Benjamin – This match is weaker the last year’s, but probably on par with the year before. It’s a good mix of talent with Hardy, Shelton and Kane previously being in the MITB; Santino for some comedy spots; Rey for the fans; Carlito so he’s on the card this year; Umanga for some high spots; and MVP for the win. It will get the crowd fired up for the show.

Champion vs Champion: Matt Hardy(US) vs CM Punk(ECW) – Matt will be coming off a big No Way Out title win, and these two will probably work great together. It will be a chance for both of them to prove themselves. Either guy over.

Mr. Kennedy vs Bobby Lashley – I am still a huge supporter of Kennedy, and I used to really like Lashley, but still think he could be good. Another match for these guys to prove themselves, and the build up to the match could be really great if they both get physical. Kennedy over for a heel win.

Street Fight: John “Bradshaw” Layfeild vs Chris Jericho – We all expect this match, but If they want to have people interested still in 3 months, the street fight will do it. Jericho over.

Womens Championship: Beth Phoenix(c) vs Candice Michelle – I shudder to think Candice will go over someone as good as Beth but who cares about WWE’s womens division anyway. Candice over, but it would be better for Beth, or even better, no Candice at all.

Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels – Triple H is busy, so Flair gets his second choice. One would assume they go all out to give Ric the send off he deserves. HBK over.

Hulk Hogan vs Batista – Hogan likes Mania, and Vince needs something special for buyrates. Batista has no title, and is too big for the MITB, so he can get booed in Orlando whether he’s heel or not. Hogan over, along with a shake and arm raise.

World Heavyweight Championship: Edge(c) vs Undertaker – Streak vs streak. It should be the main event for the reasons including, but not limited to, Taker being disrespected last year with the booking, and this being the most anticipated match (probably) on the card. Undertaker over.

WWE Championship: Triple H vs Orton(c) – The main event. It will be good, and will have a good build up (as long as Hunter gets serious), and I have no real issues with it. Triple H over with no John Cena, hopefully.

There you go,

Love,

Kanadian

Kanadian’s Yea/Boos: RAW 12/17/07

It’s the first, and hopefully not the last, edition of Kanadian’s Yea/Boos, the TV and PPV review of what brought a smile to my face as well as what made me physically ill. Lets waste no time and get right into Monday Night Raw.

Boo – Vince McMahon enters the ring as the mumbling crazy man we saw O so many months ago before his limousine tragically exploded. Vince rambles with the number one contender before giving us his best Raven impression to break. We return and Vince hasn’t moved. I can imagine the excitement of the live crowd. Out comes HHH and we get the same old ‘make fun of Vinnie Mac’ crap we’ve seen 40 billion times. Vince stands up and, in true making fun of Khali’s language style, he announces my next point.

Yea – Coach and Regal vs still shirted Triple H. This was fun, especially for someone who is as big a Coach mark as I am.

Boo – Cody Rhodes. Nuff said.

Yea – It was nice of Flair to summarize his book for us.

Boo – Umanga’s a fair monster, but that nerve hold is pissing me off. Take a page from the WWE Champion’s play book; how about a headlock?

Yea – Y2J vs JBL. Awesome stuff, this is going to be a great build up. Anything with either Bradshaw or Jericho will be worth watching, mix the two together and what do you get? Probably something pretty effing good.

Yea – Maria; she’s pretty.

YEA! – Even the likes of PWB’s dynamite kid had to enjoy this. Santino has taken his ridiculously outrageous character that us smarks love on the mic and put it into a move set. With the rise of the Columbian swapping spit with people who aren’t cool and everyone’s favorite Italian, the World Tag teams Championships will mean so much more— well lets not kid ourselves, the titles will be as meaningless as Kennedy losing on Pay Per View, but these two will look great with gold.

Boo – Vince McMahon.

Yea – Flair vs Triple H, we’re in for one of Flair’s last good matches, as well as a Disqualification No finish that we’ve all have grown to love about WWE main events.

Yea – Jeff Hardy. Here’s a guy that has put in the work, and it’s paying off. He’s exciting, a good worker, beloved by smarks and marks alike, and if Orton’s going to lose the belt before mania anyway, why can’t Hardy have it for a few weeks leading up to No Way Out? I’m dreaming, I know.

So, RAW was hit or miss for me, but as a guy who worships the ground Bradshaw, Jericho, and Regal walk on, I was mildly entertained throughout most of the show.

Love,

Kanadian
